A School Readiness Seminar for Early Learning Centres
Baby Steps to Kindergarten is a one-hour, evidence-informed seminar designed to support early learning centres in confidently guiding families through the transition to school.
Delivered by experienced early childhood educator and school readiness specialist Kirsten Leo, the seminar equips parents with clear, practical, and developmentally appropriate guidance around starting school - while reinforcing the messages and practices already in place within your centre.
Each seminar is tailored to your centre’s community, supporting educators and leadership teams to deliver consistent, best-practice school readiness messaging and to facilitate informed, honest conversations with families.
Educators may also nominate their participation as teacher-identified professional development toward NSW Teacher Accreditation requirements.
Seminars can be delivered in-centre (metropolitan Sydney) or online via Zoom, offering flexibility for your service and families.
Seminar focus areas include:
-
Current research around school starting age and readiness
-
When to consider delaying school entry - and when not to
-
Understanding school expectations and readiness beyond academics
-
What children truly need before starting Kindergarten
-
The role of parents and educators in supporting a smooth transition
-
Practical strategies families can implement at home to support development
Grounded in a child-centred lens, the seminar explores school readiness through the child’s lived experience and provides families with a clear, practical understanding of the developmental skills that support a confident start to Kindergarten.
By hosting Baby Steps to Kindergarten, centres strengthen family engagement, align readiness messaging, and support smoother, more confident transitions from early learning to school.
